The observations are great and already have taught me more about social media and sharing behavior than I thought for. I expected some geeky numbers sure, but I'm walking away with a lot more. In the future, I hope to bring in some bits from Social Harvest as well. Posted 2 years ago by Tom Maiaroto.I came across an interesting thing today in my research. Well, I've seen it twice now. Most of my samples are YouTube videos, and there's been two that I've seen been removed. Well, actually three. Videos get removed frequently from YouTube - especially popular ones. I imagine this is simply because they stand out and get more attention. Why? Many reasons, nudity or other terms breaking content, copyright infringement, etc. There was a Star Trek: The Next Generation gag reel video that was removed fairly soon after it became popular.... Be careful with that view metric...
Posted 2 years ago by Tom Maiaroto.One thing that I learned early on in my research (years ago now, I don't mean my recent research) and really my education with how the internet works is that "views" are a pretty weak metric. Be it a web page or an ad or a viral video. There's really more to look at. Yet, views still lure us into this false sense of security. It took a while, but now many people have a better handle on the pageviews metric compared to unique visitors. Social Harvest: Virality Index is up and live and going pretty well, please check it out. I've made significant progress on it, though I'm still tweaking things so things to change a little bit.
